Originally known as the Hastings 5-Day Film Challenge, this event has been a staple in Hastings for over 20 years. Twelve years ago, it was revitalized by Trash Cannes, a collective dedicated to promoting events in the Hastings area with a DIY ethos.
Today, it stands as one of the highlights of the Hastings calendar, attracting filmmakers ranging from complete novices to seasoned professionals. The challenge provides a unique opportunity to unleash your creativity and discover what you can accomplish in just five days.
Starting in 2024, we are excited to partner with the Hastings Rocks International Film Festival, which hosts a weekend of cinematic fun culminating in the screening and awards ceremony for the Trash Cannes 5-Day Film Challenge.
Create a film in three minutes or less within five days! After registering, you’ll receive a title, genre, and prop to inspire you. Use any filming device from a mobile to a professional camera - past winners have succeeded with just a phone.
If you're new, numerous online resources are available. Focus on your unique creativity. We recommend dedicating the first day to scriptwriting, two days for filming, and two days for editing. Pay attention to sound quality as it matters!
Submit your film after five days via wetransfer.com or USB. Your work will be judged by industry professionals and showcased during the screening on April 13th at The Printworks, Hastings.
Prizes include Judges' Choice and Audience Choice, with the overall winner receiving the Leigh Dyer Award, which must be returned after one year.
